What's hit the shelves?
Meet the Riders
Joe, dropping off at the DH Nationals earlier this year
Fresh off the XC podium (three for three podium placings in the AMTBC winter races so far!) and in between downhill runs, Joe Mullan was kind enough to take a moment to answer some BMCR inanities in his hypnotising Celtic accent. (*swoon!*)

Discipline(s)?

I never liked discipline, except when I'm providing it.
(ed. I repeat: *swoon*)

Funky nickname?
Unfit.

Your bike stable comprises:
A range of bikes, dependant on weather/mood/season and what the kids say is now cool.

Favourite loop?
Anything Grandmaster Flash.

What's your typical training schedule?
3 x rides a week when not travelling, plus 2 x parmis a week.

Pre-race snack?
Crumpets!

Any odd pre-race rituals?
Squawking along to James Brown. Doesn't matter if I'm DHing or XCing.

When I'm training, I like to listen to...
My bike.

Most painful crash?
Thredbo, 9 years ago. Got clothes-lined by a low branch (horserider comedy style) then landed on a large rock for extra effect.

Essential bike accessory?
Chainbreaker/quick links/me.

Dream riding destination?
Megavalanche.

Most useful riding tip you've ever received?
"Lean back!"

Most useless riding tip you've ever received?
"Try tubeless!"

Desk jockey.

Motto:
Another one?

Why do you think Tim is so cool?
Because he's on a boat.

Finally: tubes or tubeless?
Toobs!

Thanks, Joe!

"No problem."
Dear Subscriber,

It's fa-fa-freezing! (Doesn't everyone sound surprised when they say that at the moment? Seriously, you'd think that winter only appeared on a whim, leaping out of the shadows at random yearly intervals to give us a break from BBQing outside. It's a seasonal event, people. You know it's coming. Like an in-law's birthday.) Anyway, regardless of whether you've been proclaiming the chill in the air with the stunned tones of someone who hasn't needed to wear long pants since 1987, it's truly ear-warmer season now and BMCR has the goods to keep you toasty. Our Vaude rainproof jackets have been running out the door -- we've only got two of the beautiful Casella eVent jackets left and just one of the men's Splash. (The women's Splash, however, is still in the running. What's up, ladies? You don't like maroon?) And if you're looking for something fleecy, you might want to come past and check out our just-landed BMCR clothing range, now expanded to extra bits like socks and caps and arm warmers and other stuff. (For those too lazy, or overseas -- hi, Jon! -- , we'll profile it next month for ya.)

So, grab a hot chocolate and get your scrolling finger on, because we've got new products, another special, and a new rider profile, just for y'all. Enjoy! :-)
Skin 2: lighter than your average bear
Cross-country riders, your podium-dominating dreams could be about to come true. For June only, the Skin 2, Gimme some Skin... for cheap(ish)!Commençal's high-performance full carbon XC bike, is on special!

This is a serious rider's bike, whether you're thrashing the competition or just spending all day in the saddle. Slack geometry lets you barrel down the slopes, while Commençal's trademark engineering provides superb handling and comfort. Normally $4600, we've made our accountant cry by offering it this month for $3990! View a full spec list at the Commençal website (click Bicycles, New 09 Range, and XC to find it) or view a high-res shot here. If you don't mind waiting for your riding buddies at the top of the hills as well as at the bottom, this is the perfect rig for you.
New to BMCR
We have spruiked our love for the super-bright Superflash rear light before -- the August e.news, for those among you who keep our missives (and why Superflash: light up the road like a Christmas tree.wouldn't you? Because you're a normal person, that's why) -- and now we can spruik some more as it's available as a front light, too, and in a combo pack! Don't be fooled by the stealth black outside; whether day or night, Superflash lights can be seen from over 1.5 kilometres away, enough for even the most SMS-engrossed driver to notice. Waterproof, durable, and easy to mount (there's a joke there but I'll leave it alone), these babies come with batteries -- and the promise of high visibility -- included.

If your race efforts or hill climbs are needing a bit of a boost, why not combine your love of riding with your love of eating to fuel up in the saddle? Our Hi5 Energy range has now expanded so there's a flavour and method of delivery to suit everybody, whether you like chewy bars,More carbs than you can poke a stick at! slurpy gels, or powdery... er... powders. Hi5's Super Carbs are proven to out-perform normal sports drinks, so throw out your lolly water and stock up! We've even got the caffeine-boosted Energy Gel Plus, for those who haven't yet figured out how to squeeze an espresso into their hydrapack*. Hi5 Energy: for when pasta just isn't going to cut it. (Side note: Google carefully or you'll end up with a browser full of this.)

Apparently we can't write an e.newsletter at the moment without mentioning Vaude, so here's a bit more! In Doctoring this picture took three years off my life. And it's still crappy.addition to packs, bags, jackets, and pants (schön!), we've now got Vaude Costa gloves. Short-fingered, well-padded, and equipped with a cloth patch for wiping fevered brows (I'm suddenly reminded of my mother, for some reason), they're budget-friendly (hmm...) and have reflective piping on the back (ok, scratch that thought). BMCR: zu dienen!

If you're one of our lucky customers who's taking advantage of the cold snap (or the current economic "situation", whichever) to go touring, then you'll be pleased to note that we're now stocking Ortlieb, starting with the Back-Roller Classic! Extremely tough, these Ortlieb: so good, you can take it swimmingpanniers are waterproof, dustproof, easy to load, and come with internal pockets and a carrying strap. You can roll them through a river, or sling them jauntily over your shoulder for a night on the town, should you wish to impersonate a backpacker. ("¿Me puede ayudar? Estoy perdido!")

* Stuart will probably be the first person to work out how to do this, patent it, and then retire a millionaire on his small island. Take us with you! We're good at fixing things!
That's all for this month! Oh, one quick reminder: we'll be closed this Saturday for the long weekend, re-opening on Tuesday the 9th. Yup, the Queen's birthday is a feeble excuse for a public holiday, but we'll take a day off when we can get it, regardless of our feelings about the monarchy.

Keep riding, stay warm, and stay safe, hopefully simultaneously.

Cheers!
